Sunda is no ordinary stool: its seat is woven from recycled paper fibers - a material that is much more stable than you think and that can handle all everyday situations. The timeless, simple design blends in harmoniously with any environment.
The trembesi wood used comes from sustainable cultivation and not from rainforests. Sunda is available in two colourways, namely this one with a light finish and another one with a darker finish.

Main material: Trembesi (also known as rain tree or monkeypod wood)
Trembesi is also known as the rain tree and can be found widely scattered across Southeast Asia, where it often grows on streets or in parks. Since the tree originally comes from South America, no rainforest has to be cut down to produce wood in Indonesia: the fast-growing tree is usually located in urban areas, where it was planted by human hands as an ornament. In order to limit growth, the sprawling branches are regularly cut and the wood is used for furniture production. Our Trembesi comes from East Java. The wood is relatively similar to teak in terms of its color and structure, but has a significantly better sustainability balance.

This stool was handmade in Java, Indonesia
When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. In the factories from which we purchase our goods, we only work with adult and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, the production process hardly generates any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
