Our small round rug Laora is woven from the tropical plant water hyacinth. Smaller circles are grouped around a large central circle. With its unusual geometric design, it is a natural decorative element in any home that creates a homely ambience.
The sustainable, robust material is durable and insensitive and unfolds the special charm of its warm brown tones especially in combination with light interiors. Laora is available in two sizes, namely 90 and 110 cm in diameter.

Material: Water hyacinth
Our rugs are made from plant fibers. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.
The water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant that grows on rivers and lakes. It actually comes from South America, but was also introduced in Southeast Asia. There it is considered a weed because it reproduces incredibly quickly and can cover entire bodies of water with a carpet of leaves. The resulting lack of light and oxygen causes all life underwater to die, which is why the plants have to be removed regularly. In order to prepare the plants for further processing, the leaves are cut off and the thick stems are dried in the sun for three to seven days. The result is a sustainable raw material available in abundance for many wickerwork here at Soeji!

This rug is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. In the factories from which we purchase our goods, we only work with adult and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, the production process hardly generates any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
