Ditu is a placemat in an unusual shape. For Ditu, water hyacinth was woven in leaf form around a metal frame and is a real eye-catcher for every dining table.
It is also a timeless and natural accessory as a wall decoration or in combination with a beautiful vase on a sideboard in the hallway or in the living room.
Ditu is available as a set of 2, 4 or 6.

Main material: Water hyacinth
Our placemats are made from plant fibers. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.
The water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant that grows on rivers and lakes. It actually comes from South America, but was also introduced in Southeast Asia. There it is considered a weed because it multiplies incredibly quickly and can cover entire bodies of water with a carpet of leaves. The resulting lack of light and oxygen causes all life underwater to die, which is why the plants have to be removed regularly. In order to prepare the plants for further processing, the leaves are cut off and the thick stems are dried in the sun for three to seven days. The result is an abundant, sustainable raw material for many wickerwork here at Soeji!

When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. In the companies from which we purchase our goods, only experienced and adult artisans work. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, hardly any greenhouse gas emissions are generated by the production process. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
