For the round Suku coasters, fine seagrass is woven into small disks in a complex manual process. The resulting coasters are not only decorative, but also practical: they protect your table from water stains and are guaranteed not to leave any scratches. Due to the natural beige color, the coasters fit on any surface.

What basket-makers usually refer to as “seagrass” is actually not an (under)water plant, but a small, palm-like plant that is widespread on sandy beaches in the tropics of Asia. The leaves of the plants, which are often cultivated by humans, are removed, cut into strips, dried and then further processed by hand.

When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. In the companies from which we purchase our goods, only experienced and adult artisans work. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, hardly any greenhouse gas emissions are generated by the production process. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
